I step in the elevator and quickly press my floor button as I couldn't think of anything but my warm bed. It was a long tiring day. As the doors closes a small hand comes in between.

A beautiful girl enters, with possible the most elusive green eyes I have ever seen. She smiles as she shyly mutters her floor no. I press her button and realize that I have butterflies in my tummy.

Awkward silence ensues and sadly my floor arrives. I step out, try to say bye but end up muttering something indecipherable and as the door closes I realize I could possibly be letting my soul mate go without even trying.

I stare at the elevator door blankly wishing time itself had slowed down so I could spend more time with her and bask myself in her glory. I rest my hand on my lower abdomen, where the funny feeling seems to be fading and I quickly realize it was nothing more than gas.

There lay Fayyad, waiting albeit naively to receive inspiration from God as he tried to make something out of that blank canvas staring at his soul with 'afsos'. He compared himself to God who made us from nothing mere clay.

He was feeling rather blasphemous; his thoughts running astray, but he couldn't bring himself to focusing on the job at hand. He had to finish the painting, but was suffering from acute creative constipation. Just as he had given hope and was about to call it a night he heard a knock

He froze. It was 4 a.m. and he was at his workshop, no one knew where it was as he couldn't stand being interrupted while he was working.

The knocking grew loudly as he slowly moved towards the door. He could see the light rays beaming from beneath the door but there was no shadow, yet the knocking grew louder.

louder and louder as he cautiously paced himself towards the door. as he slowly turned the door handle he prayed to God for his safety and fell ashamed of his blasphemy just a few minutes ago.

Dear One,

I guess I am finally saying it. Good for me. You used to know me. You knew I could go on and on about something just like you. This is hard. No easy way to say this. I met someone. It was an accident. I wasn't looking for it. It wasn't in the make. It was the perfect storm. She said one thing, I said another. Next thing I knew, I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her in the middle of the conversation.

Now theres this feeling in my gut, that she may be the one. She's completely nuts in a way that makes me smile. She's highly neurotic. A great deal of maintenence required.

She is you. She is you. Thats the good news. Bad news is I don't know how to be with you. It scares/confuses the shit out of me. Because if I am not with you right now, I have this feeling we will get lost out there.

Its a big bad world full of twists and turns. People have a way of blinking, missing the moment. The moment that could have changed everything. I don't know whats going on between us, and I can't tell you why you should put your leap of faith on the likes of me.

But damn you feel good, just like home and you have excellent music taste, that has to count for something, right?

I have always been up for capital punishment, but alas, people just cannot follow rules sent to them by God itself!!

I remember '96, in our muscat house, sitting on our brown sofas and rubbing my feet with our precious aqua green carpet for which Mum tenderly cared and made sure we never wore footwear inside our drawing room :P After Friday lunch, we would all sit there doing our own stuff and listening to music my Dad would play. That was when I had heard Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan the first time, hearing Dam Mast Qalander.

I barely understood the lyrics back then, but it was his scintillating and half angel half demon soul summoning like voice which amazed and feared me. I remember being amazed by his music, but all his pictures i had seen was with his eyes all popping, his mouth open in the middle of a rag and his hand raised. He looked like a fat teacher screaming and ready to hit you. O.0

And i assume this was the reason I never actually listened to his music that much, Don`t get me wrong, I have always respected his music, and have had three to four of his songs in my music library, but felt a bit ashamed as I knew he deserved more, a LOT more. I am listening to his music more and more, and my respect for him is increasing exponentially.

Sunshine (2007)

Plot summary - 50 years into the future, the Sun begins to die, and Earth is dying as a result. A team of astronauts are sent to revive the Sun - but the mission fails. Seven years later, a new team are sent to finish the mission as they are Earth's last hope.

I thought the movie was brilliant. Yes, it was a tad bit technical and quite depressing, but all in all, amazingly executed.

I loved how the colour yellow is shown only when referencing the sun, else we (the audience) are starved for it. And the ensemble cast, not like Armageddon where only US oil drillers(OMGWTFBBQ) are shown, but how you see people from all races in the movie, saving the earth after all, is an international effort :P

Performance was good too, no one stood out too much, but it was alright

But I adored how the movie successfully portrayed the personal/psychological problems the astronauts went thru as they attempted to fulfill such a herculean task.

A must watch sci-fi

TIFF

So I managed to go to the screening of The Wrestler at the TIFF. If you are expecting me to review the movie,
then no.

but a sneak preview, I can give.

Its a completely character driven movie about how simple decisions we choose shape our future. About personal messy life's and the culture of capitalism. Mickey Rourke has done a splendid job uniting the audience with the movie, making our emotions one with the lead character.

And of course, no Darren Arnofsky movie is complete without Clint Mansell score harmonizing perfectly with the movie. Head over here to listen to but a taste of the score.

All in all, I would say it was a brilliant movie and I advise you to watch it when it gets released.

I also saw Pride and Glory, a nice cop drama movie, and Burn After Reading, a smart yet dumb comedy by the Coen brothers with an All-Star cast. Brad Pitt absolutely steals the show.

and rumour has it, NIN might be touring toronto again!

as some of you may know, my all time favorite movie was The Fountain, by Darren Arnofsky, starring Hugh Jackman, Rachel Weisz and just go imdb it!

I just loved the movie, the direction, the choreography, the music. It honestly moved me and I honestly think it was a beautiful piece of art. I have the HD version of the movie and the OST.

I have seen the director's other movies(Requiem for a dream, Pi, etc.) too, and I am quite ecstatic that his new movie The Wrestler, is out. Clint Mansell has again composed and i think he and Darren Arnofsky make a fabulous team. I really hope I manage to go to a screening of it during TFF.
